Nomad is defined as a person who doesn’t stay in one place very long, especially for an extended period of time. This can be someone who travels or someone that tends to travel for work.
They are able to live wherever they want in the world. Most people’s life goals are to experience the world in some way, whether it be by living abroad or traveling frequently.
I live in Florida but I travel for about 6 months out of the year.
Then, when I come back home, I have all this extra money because I don’t spend it on rent somewhere else.
Instead, my money goes to investments that will set me up for life, and experiences I will cherish forever.
What is a Digital Nomad?

A digital nomad is someone that runs their business online and travels frequently. They can work wherever they are in the world. Because of this, they get to be location independent.
They can work anywhere at anytime as long as there’s an internet connection!
It allows me to live in much cheaper countries so I have a better quality of life. And because of the freedom I have, I am able to travel more for fun rather than traveling exclusively for work.
It will be much easier to do this once you are making money online.

You may not be able to depend on a paycheck, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make money.
There are plenty of opportunities for making extra cash while working abroad; from teaching English in China to starting an online business, making money while traveling the world isn’t always easy, but with a little creativity and work you can do it!
Many people dream of quitting their job and traveling, but they worry about how to travel the world and make money.
Here are 10 ways…
1. Affiliate Marketing (the best way how to travel the world and make money :-))
Affiliate marketing is how you earn a commission by promoting someone else’s product. It has literally exploded in the digital age, becoming one of the easiest ways for entrepreneurs to make money with little effort.
The trick with affiliate marketing is finding products that are easy to sell and that people want to buy.
Once you find products that fit your audience, all you need to do is sign up as an affiliate for their service providers (i.e., Amazon), promote them on social media, and connect with potential customers through your blog, podcast, social media or YouTube channel.
Paid advertising speeds up the process, but it is recommended that you learn how to sell organically before attempting to pay for advertising.
Some people have a bad perception of affiliate marketing because they think of random spammers posting links everywhere. This is the WRONG way to do. Not only is it wrong, it doesn’t work (and everyone hates you!).
The form of affiliate marketing taught at The Rich Nomad is a subniche of affiliate marketing known as of high-ticket. This means selling products at a $1,000 price point or greater.
The higher the price, the higher the commission (and the less sales you have to make every month to get a full time income).
Recurring commission products are great as secondary income streams. They are mostly software and membership products, and you get a recurring commission every month for each person that buys from you.
It is most definitely the best business model for beginners because you don’t have to create your own products, have a team, fulfillment center, customer service department, etc.

2. Teaching English overseas
One of the best ways for how to travel the world and make money is to get into teaching English overseas. This is a very popular way of making money while abroad, and for good reason!
There are many opportunities in different countries around the world-and what’s even better is that you can often save up money while traveling.
There are 2 way to do this:
- Get a job teaching English in foreign country
- Get a remote job teaching English and live wherever you want
If you’re get a job as a foreign teacher, this is a great way to immerse yourself in a culture and explore a new place. You typically need a TESL certificate which you can get online. It is a very simple process, you just have to pass a course.
I did an online certification that I found off of Groupon. It costed less than $100 and I qualified for several jobs around the world.
Where can you teach?
You will want to research which countries need English teachers and see where you feel most comfortable teaching. Are there certain cultures that would be more welcoming?
Do you know people from there that can help you through the process?
There are so many different countries around the world in which English teachers are needed. The answer to where you can teach is: “pretty much any country that doesn’t speak English as a first language.”
If you don’t want to be tied down to one country, I recommend finding an online English teacher position in China. They can pay up to $25 an hour and that is big money in some countries!
If you are living somewhere like the Phillipines and teaching English in China you will be in the upper class of income earner in the Phillipines.
There are several companies that hire English teachers in China so you will have to do a Google search to find out who is hiring at the time. Not all companies are always hiring.
This is one of the best ways to make money as a digital nomad if you want to have a job instead of starting a business. There are many opportunities as an English teacher. Of course, you have to be able to speak English reasonably well!
If you asked someone 20 years ago how to travel the world and make money they would have said teach English. Now, there are so many other options!
3.Freelancing
With the internet, you can sell your services to anyone with an e-mail address! It’s simple, write for businesses or publications that are looking for new writers, marketers , or editors.
Look for a company that need someone to handle their social media accounts. You could even offer consulting services if you have previous professional experience. The possibilities are endless!
Getting clients can be difficult, so I recommend finding a website like Upwork that has a customer base already. You can also search their platform for ideas on what you can offer!

4. Become an Airbnb host – Make some extra cash by renting out your space to travelers!
Airbnb is a service that connects travelers with unique places to stay when they travel.
It’s perfect for when you’re in between trips, have just moved out of your apartment, are looking for someone to take care of an empty house while on holiday, or want to earn some extra cash during a time when you’re not working.
Airbnb makes it easy – use the app to let travelers know your location and the dates when it’s available, set your pricing, and get paid via Airbnb each night
With so many people in the world interested in traveling, Airbnb has created a new way for tourists and locals alike to explore their own city or country at a more affordable price.
I have run Airbnbs and it was a great experience. The best advice I can give you is to treat your listing as a business. Most people that fail at Airbnb is because they weren’t treating their listing as a business.
Good reviews are the most important thing you can get as an Airbnb host. Bad reviews will kill your business. When your review score goes down you have to lower your price to find people willing to stay at your property.
But if you have excellent reviews and become a Superhost you will be able to charge top dollar for your property.

5. Rent out your car on Turo, Getaround, or RelayRides
Another quick way how to travel the world and make money is to rent out your car.
Turo is the world’s largest person-to-person car rental community. Members have access to a variety of unique and incredible cars from all over the world – from classic vintage models to modern luxury vehicles.
Car owners set their own prices, earn thousands of dollars per month, and track usage and cost details online or with the Turo app.
RelayRides is an online peer-to-peer car rental marketplace that gives members access to great cars at low prices.
There are no reservation penalties or mileage limits on rentals by RelayRides users in many US cities, including San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Seattle/Portland (OR), Sacramento (CA), Honolulu.
Rent your car on Getaround. It’s like Airbnb for cars. Getaround makes it easy to rent cars by the hour or day, whether you’re in need of a ride downtown or headed out of town on business.
I rented my car on Turo while I was renting my Airbnb property and had the property manager for my Airbnb take care of my Turo listing as well. It is very important to have a manager you can rely on and trust if you’re going to do this.
6. Find online work – Work remotely.
A stable way how to travel the world and make money is to find online work.
This can be on your computer, on your tablet, on your smartphone, or any other device. There are plenty of opportunities for you online without ever having to leave your home.
Websites like Upwork (formerly oDesk) allow you to find freelance jobs that include writing, translating, programming, design and more.
If you are traveling the United States, you can also find gig-work through websites like TaskRabbit.
People hire skilled professionals to help with tasks around your home and city such as furniture assembly, TV mounting, pianoso moving, mattress cleaning window washing and more.
Here are some companies that hire remote workers or allow you to work remotely
Uber – they have drivers all over the world but I wouldn’t recommend becoming one in a 3rd world country.
Fiverr – Not all Fiverr gigs only pay $5. Go through the site and see who is charging higher prices and you can get ideas of what you can offer on Fiverr.
Look for remote jobs on social media. Facebook groups are actually a great place for this. People are always hiring remote workers to build their businesses.
Upwork (formerly oDesk) – Find freelance jobs like writing, translating, programming, design and more. I have worked on Upwork before and it’s pretty good.
Use TaskRabbit – Hire skilled professionals instantly to help with tasks around your home and city, such as furniture assembly, TV mounting, pianoso moving, mattress cleaning, window washing and more.
Become a developer for a non-coding platform. Good examples of this are Shopify stores and online marketing software. You can learn their platforms and build stores and sales funnels with drag and drop editors.
Good designers can make a lot of money with this!
If you have a job right now, ask your boss if you can go remote!
Most people don’t even think to do this. Why not? If you’re going to quit so you can travel the world, you might as well ask first!
7. Create an online course and sell it on Udemy or Skillshare
You can create an online course on Udemy or Skillshare where you teach what you know to the world. You can have live sessions, set your own prices, and keep 100% of the profits!
Build a course on Udemy or Skillshare around something you’re already an expert at. Then, market it online and sell it!
Selling courses is another way how to travel the world and make money.
8. Start a blog about your experiences as a nomad
For example, you could sell your own products or even someone else’s through your blog. You could also start a corner of the site to showcase your favorite blogger’s work, and earn commission for every sale.
You could start a blog about your experience traveling the world on sites like Travel Blogs.
With this site you can make money by either getting sponsorship for your blog, affiliate links on the blog, or even bringing in products to sell through the site.
You can also make money on blogs by using Google Adsense and other ad networks.
It’s easier than you think to start a blog. You can even use a free account with WordPress.com or Blogger to get started.
This has been a classic method for how to travel the world and make money and people have been doing it for decades!
9. Working as a Tour Guide
One job for how to travel the world and make money in any place you visit is to a tour guide.
If you love to travel and love sharing your experiences, becoming a tour guide may be the perfect job for you!!
There are many companies around the world that will hire tourists to do this – and it usually comes with some incredible perks.
Some examples include discounts on attractions, food, accommodations, etc.
If you are good with people you can go to a hostel and ask the owners if you can provide tours for their guests. Hostels like to create social environments so they will likely say yes.
Then, you can charge a small fee up front and ask for tips later.
You can do this even if you don’t know the area super well. Just Google the history of the place you want to tour, go visit that place, or even go on a tour of that place with someone else.
After that, you are more than likely ready to give the tour yourself!
10. Selling products online
If you’re not into teaching or riding motorcycles through Vietnam, then why not try selling products online?
There are plenty of ways to do this – from promoting other people’s products with affiliate marketing to starting your own ecommerce store and sending traffic to it.
It doesn’t matter which method you choose, as long as you know how to travel the world and make money selling products online.
Online marketing & ecommerce continues to grow – and with it, so does your income opportunity.
2 of the most popular platform for this are Amazon and Shopify.
While a lot of people teach dropshipping on Shopify with Chinese products, I highly recommend you do not do this.
Your customers will be unhappy with the long shipping times and the poor quality of products.
I recommend looking for a dropshipping supplier within the United States and sell to people in the United States. The reason is simple: that is the most profitable way to do it.
You don’t have to have a business degree or a great product idea – you can sell your own crafts on Etsy, open a shop on eBay, or even list on Craigslist. It’s never been easier to make money selling what you love.
All that said, I have done ecommerce before and found it to be far too much work. It might seem like you don’t have to work much, but you will when you start getting sales.
For that reason, I have to once again say that affiliate marketing is much easier and you can make more money with it. In my view, it is superior in every way.
